Born in 1916, Paolo Enrico Coletta graduated from the University of Missouri in 1938 with a B.S. in…Education, and undertook graduate studies at the same institution. He completed his Masters degree in 1939, and his Ph.D. in 1942. After serving in the United States Navy during World War II, he taught at the United States Naval Academy as a Professor in the Department of English, History, and Government. "An extremely interesting and important subject, Marine Corps history should not be studied or portrayed in a vacuum. Therefore, in addition to strictly Marine Corps matters, attention herein has been given, where necessary and appropriate, to diplomatic, maritime, naval, military, aviation, geographical, political, economic, social, intellectual, scientific, technological, organizational, administrative, and personal history"--Explanatory notes.

This version is noted as "Revised edition of A Bibliography of American Naval History" that was copyrighted in 1981. This work seeks to update the original edition published by the Naval Institute Press in 1981, by providing new titles in military literature that have appeared since the end of 1979. It differs most from the original edition by providing twenty-three special topics, ranging from Amphibious Operations to women in the Navy, as well as titles in chapters that proceed in chronological order. This edition will greatly reduce titles on Marine Corps History but includes what are considered classic accounts about the U.S. Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard. As in the first edition, titles are listed under books, documents, dissertations or theses, articles in periodicals or essays in books, transcripts of oral interviews, fiction, and still or moving film. Provides a listing of the secretaries of the Navy and Chiefs of Naval Operations to date, and both an author and subject index. Second/Revised Edition, Presumed First printing thus.
