Laying out, with dates, payments totalling £450, to which a further £200 are to be added that day, in consideration of which Collins assigns to the firm the copyrights of '"The Inn of Strange Meetings" - "The Secret of Long Life" - "The Princess Clarice" and "The Silchesters" [.] and also of "The Ivory Gate" - "The Vivian Romance" "Marquis and merchant" and "Two Plunges for a Pearl"'. TWO (receipt): 1p., landscape 12mo. In good condition, on aged paper. Signed by Collins over a purple one penny Inland Revenue stamp. Reads: 'Knowl Hill | Twyford Berks | December 14 - 1872. | £200 : 0 : 0 | Received of messrs: Henry S. King & Co. publishers 65 Cornhill London the sum of Two Hundred Pounds for the Copyright of the M.S. novel entitled "Mr. Carrington" which they are at liberty to bring out when and how they think fit. | [signed] Mortimer Collins'. 'It is cool of Miss Court to talk thhe confidence of her own home, when she made the statement to Mrs Bulkeley in her own drawing-room.' Suggests that Draper send 'the Postmistress' a 'reminder'. 'She is so accustomed to threatening letters from her creditors' lawyers that she possibly may disregard this.' Asks him to 'make her understand that withholding an apology may have sharp consequences'. There will be 'a few quiet folk here in the Whitsun week', and the Collinses will be 'delighted to see you'. Card: attractively printed in light brown, purple and gold, on one side of a piece of shiny paper, 12 x 14 cm. Gives Collins's name and dates above an anonymous two-stanza 16-line poem, beginning 'The poet may tread earth sadly, | Yet is he Dreamland's king; | And the fays at his bidding gladly | Visions of beauty bring.'
