First Edition. First edition, 8vo, pp. 16; self-wrappers, stitched, as issued; stain and nibbling on upper edge, coming close to but not affecting text; pages otherwise clean and sound. "Writing under the pen name "Junius," [Colton] published a series of widely circulated tracts that assailed Jacksonian fiscal policies, promoted… a protective tariff and federally chartered national bank, declared abolitionism 'a sedition,' and portrayed the Whig party as truly democratic and the Jacksonian as demagogic and despotic" (ANB). This tract is concerned specifically with the benefits of the credit system and is critical of its proposed abolition. It ends with an endorsement of William Henry Harrison for president. American Imprints 40-1565. Sabin 14768 for the second edition published in New York.
