Title translates as "Youth." Single Holocaust-era issue of monthly communist Yiddish youth magazine Yungvarg. The magazine ran from 1937 until at least 1944. "As the Yiddish sc…hool systems blossomed in the 1920s, an accompanying literature developed in New York. The Sholem Aleichem Folk Institute published Kinder Zhurnal [Children's Journal] from 1921 to the late 1970s. The editor for the first 15 years was the leading Yiddish literary critic Shmuel Niger. The Workman Circle published Kinderland, and then Kinder Tsaytung [Children's Newspaper]. The communists [sic, Communist] schools published the monthly Yungvarg. Many of the leading Yiddish writers tried their hands at writing for children, and as a result, there are many masterpieces in these journals. The leading illustrators were Zuni Maud, Yosl Cutler, Aron Goodelman, Avreml, Saul Raskin, Note Koslovsky, Boris Aronson, Emanuel Romano, and Lola. They designed puzzles, games and comics, in addition to wonderful illustrations of stories." (Itsik Gottesman, University of Texas). Cover illustrator Dan Rico (1912-1985) "was an American paperback novelist, screenwriter, wood engraver and comic book writer-artist, who co-created the Marvel Comics characters the Black Widow (Natasha Romanova) with plotter Stan Lee and artist Don Heck; Jann of the Jungle with artist Arthur Peddy; Leopard Girl with artist Al Hartley; and Lorna the Jungle Girl with an artist generally considered to be Werner Roth.
