Original red cloth, 192 pp, illustrated with frontispiece of author and a single cartoon. Hardcover, good, no dustjacket. Water(? ) stain on side edges of both boards which has lifted off some of the dye there, spine moderately faded; internally, paper lightly age yellowed, old bookseller's price (in pencil) otherwise tight, clean, paper crisp, unmarked, probably never really read. Author was a physician in the Medical Corps, thus the book begins with the frown, his investigation into the death of a soldier who died in camp due to a lack of medical attention, followed by the smiles, lyrics to dozens of satirical songs set to popular tunes (no music) , jokes, pithy sayings etc. Regarding American experiences during World War I.
