Oblong narrow 8vo (199 x 89 mm). 1 p. on transparent music paper, rastrated. Together with an autograph letter signed, Palm Springs, 15 May 1983, ½ p., oblong small 8vo. With autograph envelope. A late musical autograph from Krenek's television opera "Der Zauberspiegel", op. 192. In the accompanying letter the composer speaks of other work still in progress. - The musical album leaf preserves five bars for voice and piano from the fifth scene, Pierre's aria, with the text: "Carola! Mein Traum hat sich realisiert!". - Composed between 1963 and 1966, "Der Zauberspiegel" belongs to Krenek's mature stage works and was first performed in Munich on 23 December 1967. In the opera, Pierre and Carola use a "magic mirror" to animate dead matter, a premise that places the work squarely within Krenek's characteristically modern, intellectually charged music theatre. - In the accompanying letter to Annelie Geier, an admirer in Cologne, Krenek explains that he has no sketch leaves to give away, but is happy to oblige with the requested bars from the 'Magic Mirror', adding: "Ja, ich komponiere noch - etwas ziemlich Großes. Worum es sich handelt, muß vorläufig geheim bleiben" ("Yes, I am still composing - something rather large. What it is, however, must remain secret for the time being"). - An attractive notated excerpt from a late opera, joined with an engaging glimpse of the composer's continuing creative activity in Palm Springs. - In excellent condition.…
