paperback. Condizione: Good. Oakland Public Library, 1948. Booklet, 33 single-sided, mimeographed, double spaced pages. In good+ condition. Original Blue paper covers with black cloth binding tape on spine. Light bumping and creasing to edges and corners and light overall scuffing, soiling and aging to covers as well. Binding tight. This work reflects on the centennial of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which concluded the Mexican-American War in 1848, resulting in significant territorial changes between the United States and Mexico. The booklet examines the treaty's historical context, its implications for U.S. - Mexico relations, and its enduring impact on the cultural and political landscape of the American Southwest. Peter Thomas Conmy (1901 - 1996) was a distinguished librarian and historian, primarily associated with the Oakland Public Library. Beginning his career as a librarian, he ascended to the position of head librarian, where he served with dedication. By 1972, he held the titles of librarian emeritus and city historian.

Original stapled pamphlet has been library re-bound (San Diego Public Library) in sturdy brown boards, with library stamp and pencil call number on title page, title and call number on spine. Usually, an ex-library copy has less value; in this case, however, the library binding has resulted in a sturdy copy of an original fragile pamphlet.

33p., 8.5x11 inches, footnotes, bibliography, mimeographed report in mildly worn stapled blue printed wraps. with black cloth tape spine. Conmy was at the time City Librarian for Oakland, CA and Grand Second Vice-President of Native Sons of the Golden West. His text reads as if written by a career librarian, and concludes with a Chamber of Commerce boosterism writ very large indeed : "Californians must take a special pride in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. American ownership meant progress.".

"The Pardee Home is a house in Oakland, California. It was the home of three generations of the Pardee family. It is now a non-profit museum showing over 100 years of the life of a prominent California family. The house, a well-preserved example of Italianate architecture, is a city landmark, a California Historical Landmark, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house was constructed in 1868 by California State Senator Enoch H. Pardee. His son, George Pardee, a Governor of California, also inhabited the house, inheriting it after his father's death. After George's death in 1941, it passed on to his two daughters, Madeline and Helen (the same name as her mother) , who lived in the house until their deaths in 1980 and 1981 respectively.
