Jahrhundert entsteht in ehemaligen Wohnhausern bedeutender Personlichkeiten ein neuer Typus Gedenkkultur: Die Hauser von Goethe, Schiller, Durer, Luther, Mozart u.a. werden der Offentlichkeit als Personengedenkstatten zuganglich gemacht und im Laufe der Zeit haufig zu Museen ausgebaut. Fur die Einrichtung solcher Personengedenkstatten ist die enge Bindung an einen Ort ausschlaggebend: das Haus als Ort der Geburt, des Wirkens oder des Sterbens. Der vorliegende Band dokumentiert erstmals die Entstehung dieses Phanomens im deutschsprachigen Raum, indem er Beitrage von Fachwissenschaftlern und Museumsfachleuten zusammenfuhrt. Am Beispiel der Begrundung von Dichter-, Kunstler- oder Komponistenhausern wird damit der Ausgangspunkt entstehender weltlicher Gedenkkultur im 19. Jahrhundert diskutiert.
