Il est encore complété par quelques détails relatifs à ce qui se fait à l'étranger en matière d'instruction militaire de la jeunesse. Enfin, notre narration comprend aussi des récits de fêtes, diverses anecdotes humoristiques et la reproduction d'un certain nombre de renseignements en rapport direct avec le sujet élucidé." (p. 7 f.) - "L'intérêt que le public n'a cessé de témoigner à une institution populaire disparue brutalement, les décisions récentes des 'Anciens-collégiens' et des 'Anciens-moyens' d'étudier la réorganisation des 'cadets', nous ont fait penser que tout incomplet qu'il soit, l'ouvrage posthume de feu Cornaz-Vuillet pouvait rendre quelque service. Jahrhunderts wurden in verschiedenen Deutschschweizer Städten nach ausländischem Vorbild die ersten modernen Kadettenkorps gegründet, die nach den französischen cadets benannt wurden. Zu Beginn des 19. Jh. kam es in der Westschweiz, namentlich der Waadt, in den 1850er Jahren auch im Tessin zu Korpsgründungen. Zwischen 1830 und 1874 gab es eine eigentliche Gründungswelle [.]. [.] Den Kadetteneinheiten gehörten Knaben im Alter von 10 bis ca. 15 Jahren an, die diesen teils freiwillig, teils aufgrund von an Schulen geknüpften Obligatorien beitraten. Im Zentrum stand die militärische Ausbildung unter Anleitung von Offizieren in Form von Schiessen, militärischem Drill und Manövern. Kadetten präsentierten sich mit Vorbeimärschen an Feiern und Jugendfesten. Einige Korps verfügten zu diesem Zweck auch über eine Marschmusikabteilung. [.] Als mit der neuen Militärordnung des Bundes 1874 das Knabenturnen an den Schulen zum obligatorischen militärischen Vorunterricht erklärt wurde, ging die Zahl der Kadetten stetig zurück."
