Aggiungi al carrello12 issues (complete); large 8vo (234 x 155 mm); plates, illustrations and advertisements; publisher's pictorial wrappers, first part rather worn and dust-soiled with upper wrapper detached, another issue browned and worn at spine with upper cover detached, otherwise a very good set. A complete run of the relaunched magazine The Butterfly, originally created by Walter Haddon in 1893; extremely uncommon in the original wrappers. The short run featured many notable contributors of the era, including Laurence Housman, Max Beerbohm, S.H. Sime, H.D. Lowry and Arthur Morrison. Of particular interest are the first appearance of H.G. Wells' short story 'A Vision of Judgement', published anonymously in No.7, and Baron Corvo's short story 'Stories Toto told me: About what is due to Repentance' (No.6).

Aggiungi al carrelloThe complete New Series of the literary magazine The Butterfly. The monthly magazine first appeared in May 1893 and the first series lasted until February 1894. A New Series, published by Grant Richards, was begun in March 1899 and was discontinued after 12 issues in February 1900. The magazine contains writing by Laurence Housman, and illustrations by Max Beerbohm, S. H. Sime, and Joseph Pennell. Volume I includes the first appearance of Baron Corvo's short story "About What is Due to Repentance", printed here at pp. 267-75. The tale was included, notably revised, under the title "About What is Due to Contrition" in In His Own Image (1901), which expands Rolfe's collection of short stories describing the travels of a group of young saints, Stories Toto Told Me (1898), from six to 32. The magazine also includes the first appearance of H. G. Well's "A Vision of Judgement" published anonymously in vol. II at pp. 21- 9. This satirical short story was first published in book form in The Obliterated Man and Other Stories in December 1925. Woolf C78. 2 vols, octavo (240 x 150 mm). Illustrated frontispieces and title pages, 134 plates by various illustrators. Contemporary green half morocco, raised bands to spines, compartments lettered and tooled with floral devices in gilt, single gilt rules to marbled sides, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt. Spines slightly darkened and gently rolled, a little wear to extremities, short splits to ends of front joint of vol. 2 but still sound, contents clean. A very good copy.
