Julia Dent Grant Cantacuzène Speransky, Princess Cantacuzène, Countess Speransky (1876 - 1975), was an American author and historian, granddaughter of President Ulysses S. Grant, and wife of Prince Mikhail Cantacuzène, a Russian general and diplomat. These memoirs recount tumultous times in Russia, including, among other things, her perspective, from the royal circles, on the Russo-Japanese War, the Revolution of 1905, World War I, the murder of Rasputin, the October Revolution, the rise of the Bolsheviks, and her flight from Russia. Eventually she returned to America, and after her divorce, she re-established her American citizenship and renounced her aristocratic titles.
