Consists of four entries, the most notable being that of Andrew Reed & James Matheson, "A Narrative of the Visit to the American Churches by the Deputation from the Congregational Union of Engl…and Wales," consisting of a 194 page account of travels throughout the colonies, from Washington D.C., to Philadelphia, New England, upstate New York including the Erie Canal and Niagara Falls, Ohio, Kentucky to Virginia, back through New Jersey ; the authors are particularly observant of race, slavery, mill workers, Native Americans, coal miners, abstinence movements and the like. They quote a number of the distressing ads in Baltimore for help in retrieval of runaway slaves, and take part in services of the African Church in Kentucky, where by law the pulpit must be manned by at least one white minister. Very good condition, an unworn copy, some off-setting to the boards, occasional light foxing in the text.
