Chiton aorangi n. sp. from offshore islands in northern New Zealand is described and illustrated. The known distribution of the species is from the Three Kings Islands in the north to the Alderman Islands in the south. Based on an examination of the relevant types, Chiton aorangi is differentiated from its nearest relative, Chiton themeropis Iredale, 1914, and from two other New Zealand species, Chiton torri Suter, 1907 and Chiton pelliserpentis Quoy & Gaimard, 1835.
