No Binding. Condizione: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Not a book but a group of three, 7-inch, 45 rpm "single" vinyl records from 1958. The Crests' "16 Candles," credited to Luther Dixon, COED CO-506, is very-good-plus to near-mint with some rub and a small PON to the red-and-black label. The Teddy Bears' "To Know Him, Is to Love Him," both sides credited to Philip Spector, on the pale blue Dore label, is Dore 45-503, near mint, while "Willie and the Hand Jive," sung by and credited to Johnny Otis, is purple label Capitol F3966, 45-18745, near-mint to the "A" side, very-good-plus with a sticker pull to label of B-side "Ring-A-Ling." Following graduation from Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, young Philip Spector convinced Era records to pony up $75 so he could take his vocal group, the Teddy Bears (Marshall Leib, Harvey Goldstein, lead singer Annette Kleinbard, and last minute recruit, drummer Sandy Nelson) into the studio to record his first song, "To Know Him, Is to Love Him." The record stayed in the Billboard Hot 100 for 23 weeks -- Number One for three weeks. At the age of 19, Phil Spector had written, arranged, played, sung, and produced the best-selling record in the country. It sold over two and a half million copies. Leib went on to join the Hollywood Argyles. As "Carol Connors," Annette Kleinbard went on to write the Rip Chords' "Hey Little Cobra" and the Academy Award-nominated Rocky theme song, "Gonna Fly Now." The year was 1958. Does anyone remember? Group of three 45 rpm vinyl "singles," for one price -- in fact, now reduced from $27.

No Binding. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. Not a book. We offer the 7-inch, 45 rpm extended play vinyl disc, only, identifying itself somewhat cryptically as "Volume 3." Presumably this originally came in a color picture sleeve (now missing) identifying itself as "Dick Clark's All-Time Hits Volume 3." Vinyl very-good-plus but the yellow label soiled and bearing the name of Previous Owner "Jeanne" several times. (A girl can't be too careful.) Now reduced from $15.

Aggiungi al carrelloA well-presented Victorian monogram album containing over 1600 cut monograms. Many here are private monograms and include a large number of women's christian names, while there are pages devoted to regiments, naval ships, clubs, associations and Oxford and Cambridge colleges. The presentation is typical, but especially neat and varied, with the cut monograms arranged on decorative pen and watercolour grounds. These are often geometric (circles and other interlocking figures are frequent) but include a gothic window, patriotic flags, mossy borders, anchors and a heraldic garter. Monogram collecting was hugely popular in the mid-nineteenth century and collections like this usually included genuine examples cut from stationery, together with others specially produced by stationery companies capitalising on the fashion. These latter monograms, evidently sold in sets can be quite elaborate, often featuring gold inks and sometimes with amusing and whimsical subjects. 4to (228 × 175 m), gold printed title and 59 leaves with cut and pasted monograms on decorative grounds in pen, ink and watercolour. Contemporary red roan, gilt. Joints expertly repaired, slightly rubbed.

This is a fine collection of colored Scottish crests. There are thirty in total. Each color crest (often with gilt and silver) measures 5 1/4 x 4 1/2 inches, Each is mounted to a leaf (upon occasion two leaves) that measures 13 x 20 inches and bears long descriptive text describing the history of the family and the crest. They are all from C. D. Raymond and Son Collection and each first leaf bears, in pencil, an accession number and the date 1874 (all erasable of course). Raymond has also included a facsimile title page for Slezer's 1693 Theatrum Scotiae: Containing the Prospects of Their Majesty's Castles and Palaces (it also bears a color crest). The crests are quite beautiful.

Condizione: Good. Paris: s.i., 1873. Quarto (28cm); publisher's full pictorial black morocco stamped in gilt, all edges gilt; [37]ll. filled to completion with 535 color embossed crests. Binding quite worn and soiled and spine partly perished, several crest examples crudely removed (and not included in the count), most likely lacking one leaf. Good at best, though contents are still mostly clean and sound. An example of a very popular late 19th-century pastime, collecting and scrapbooking armorial crests. This volume with the ownership inscription on front free endpaper of Louise Cardoze, 1 rue Beaujon, Paris, Nov 22, 1873. Cardoze assembled the emblems often by color and subject in a very pleasing manner.

Very good. Light wear along original centerfold. Blank on verso. Size 21.25 x 27.5 Inches. This is a c. 1860 Bouasse-Lebel chromolithograph chart of armorial crests of the era's major world powers. The chart details seventy-six different crests. The world powers of the 19th century fill the first row: Great Britain, France, Prussia, Austria, and Russia, along with five others. Many of the rest hail from German duchies and principalities, but countries such as Holland, Luxembourg, and Belgium also appear, as do the Papal States. Mainly concerned with Europe, only a handful of non-European countries are represented. These include the United States, Persia, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Japan, and Mexico. This chart is also notably an early example of commercial chromolithography. Chromolithography Chromolithography is a color lithographic technique developed in the mid-19th century. The process involved using multiple lithographic stones, one for each color, to yield a rich composite effect. Oftentimes, the process would start with a black basecoat upon which subsequent colors were layered. Some chromolithographs used 30 or more separate lithographic stones to achieve the desired effect. Chromolithograph color could also be effectively blended for even more dramatic results. The process became extremely popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when it emerged as the dominate method of color printing. The vivid color chromolithography produced made it exceptionally effective for advertising and propaganda imagery. Publication History and Census This chart was created c. 1860 and published by Bouasse-Lebel. Several editions of this chart were published during the 19th century, nonetheless, we have been unable to locate any other examples of this edition.
