A nicely produced tribute to the work and persona of Taos, NM author John Nichols. Known for both his fiction and non-fiction work set in Northern New Mexico, Nichols recently published a memoir titled "I Got Mine." Editor Joe Barrera contributes an article on the virtues of "The Milagro Beanfield War", perhaps the author's best known novel. Barrera also presents an edited version of a long interview conducted in 2017. Scholar and author Tom Cronin analyzes the themes in "Beanfield" while Tom Wayman offers information on how to bring the novel into the classroom. The real attraction of this publication is the extensive reprints of drawings done by Nichols through the years. A cartoonist from an early age, he has never been fully recognized for the body of political cartoons he has published. It is impressive and kudos to the editor for featuring them.

Dunne (1903-1966) has SIGNED this copy with a personalized inscription on the ffep to a youngster, Al Benton, followed by a penciled note from the recipient detailing how he received the book in 1951 when he was a "visiting clubhouse boy in San Diego P.C.L." Benton would go on to become a major league baseball player himself, so this is a scarce association copy between two baseball greats! Orig. published in 1947, this is a 1951 printing of that First Edition. Hardcover small 8vo has light blue cloth-covered boards stamped with black lettering & front & spine. Because of external rubbing & soiling, condition is downgraded to Fair. Interior is generally quite clean, with a few random spots. Pages tanned with some light pencil underlining & marginal notes.
