This is a fascinating history of early California inns that were established between 1844 and 1869. Authored by Ralph Herbert Cross. In his Introduction, Cross elaborates that he wanted to "reconstruct the stories of these early California inns, and insofar as it has been possible, to tell something of the men who established and operated them."
