Exterior shows scuffing and spotting along with edge and corner bumps/wear. Spine is chipped, mainly along the bottom where there is also tearing present, tears also present on exte…rior hinge areas. Internal binding has some pulling at the front board as well as numerous spots where the page quadrants are sewn in. The front end page has some chipping near the upper left corner and a very faint inscription that starts out "Boston, Feb 1st/65 To (?? ??) Day, with Complements of (????????)" some parts are too difficult to decipher. This is the only handwriting found in the book, no bookplates, no library markings etc. Pages are toned due to age and there is some spotting and foxing present. A collection of essays on domestic home life by Harriet Beecher Stowe written under a pen name and originally published in 1864 as a series of articles in the Atlantic Magazine.

Covers are original brown cloth, rubbed, discolored with light stains, spine is faded and discolored with lightly frayed edges, and all corners bumped and slightly cocked. Faded gilt title on spine. Binding is almost fully split on the pre-title page and rear brown endpaper. Previous owner holiday presentation on pre-title page after dark brown endpapers. Pages have light foxing and small stains on the edges but text is clean. Cover shows discoloration, especially on the front. Book Condition: Fair no DJ. Price based on condition. (see images and please request more pictures if further details are needed). Books are shipped quickly and securely packed in a box. Harriet Beecher Stowe used pen name Christopher Crowfield. She was an American abolitionist and author. She came from a famous religious family and is best known for her novel Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852).

This is one of the three books which she published under that name. The book contains a collection of works on housekeeping, home life, domestic econ…omy, etc told from the point of a view as a man. These writings were first originally published in issues of the Atlantic Monthly in 1864. The book is overall in very good condition with just some minor signs of wear and age. The covers only have some light wear with a little wear towards the extremities of the spine. The binding is good and sound. The interior is lightly toned from age but is mostly nice and clean, though there may be the very occasional page with a light bit of foxing, grubbiness, or some kind of other minor imperfection such as a minor interior crack, creased page corner, minor bit of soiling, small chip,tiny tear etc. Generally though, it's a nice copy. The book measures approximately 7 1/4 inches by 4 3/4 inches and is 333 pages long.
