Orchards white with blossom, and the diked marshes of the Tantramar. It came, that rapturous magic, into Lynn Westcott's spirit and drew him from the cities, back to the Acadian home of his fathers. He found there a spell more potent in the warm dark eyes of Manon Labrette, daughter of a family which for generations had hated all who bore the name of Westcott. So many things against the love of Lynn and Manon: family pride and an enmity grown cruel with age. Yet it seemed that the years had conspired to write finis to the ancient feud and had chosen these two, so young, so splendid, as the instruments of fate's design. A story of love that is young, love that is strong and fine, unique in its setting and poetic in its sentiment. [About the author] One of the most popular and prolific authors of his time, Louis Arthur Cunningham was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on 28 September 1900, the son of William John Cunningham and Sarah (McGrath) Cunningham. He earned a BA (1922) and MA (1923) from St. Joseph's University in Memramcook, and then he taught English, French, and Latin at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC (1923-24). In 1925, Cunningham returned to Saint John to become a full time writer. He published his first story in the same year, and by 1927 had published his first novel, Yvon Tremblay. On 10 July 1929, Cunningham married Hortense Marie Mooney of Saint John. Enjoying a long and successful career as a popular writer, Cunningham published twenty-eight novels and more than 500 short stories, as well as feature articles which were published in magazines around the world. As he was fascinated by the geography and history of the Maritimes, much of his fiction was set in the region, and his non-fiction articles included topics such as the history of Saint John shipbuilding. He occasionally used the pseudonyms ?Merlyn Miller? and ?Merlyn Swift.? Louis Arthur Cunningham died of a heart attack at his home in Hammond River on 13 June 1954.
