EA). - Von Verlagsseite etwas verwirrend ausgezeichnet, denn bei "Magie" u. dem hier fehlenden Band Teil II: "Mystik" handelt es sich um "Teil I" von Buch 4. - Herausgegeben im Auftrag der Grossen Weissen Bruderschaft, als A ..A .. bekan…nt. - Mary d'Este Sturges schrieb das Buch nach Diktat von Crowley nieder; 1911 als sich Crowley gemeinsam mit ihr in Zürich aufhielt, erschien in einer Vision "Ab-ul-Diz", bei weiteren Beschwörungen erging die Weisung man solle nach Neapel gehen um dort das "Book Four" (Liber ABA) zu schreiben. In nur wenigen Wochen diktierte Crowley in der Villa Caldarazzo (Posilippo bei Neapel) dann das Buch Mary d'Este Sturges, dessen Erstausgabe 1912-13 in London veröffentlicht wurde. - Crowley selbst zu seinem Werk: "Ich glaube nicht, daß ich zu weit gehe, wenn ich sage, daß Teil I von Buch Vier und meine Acht Vorlesungen über Yoga einen absolut ausreichenden Führer zur nutzbringenden Praxis des Gegenstands bilden. (.) Zum Studium der Magie: Teil II und III (Magick in Theory and Practice) und Teil IV (The Equinox of the Gods). Füge noch das Buch Thoth hinzu, und das ist es auch schon." (Magick without Tears, Brief 83 und 81.) - Michael Dewitt, Herausgeber einer Neuauflage: "Eine ähnliche Erfahrung machte auch der Verfasser dieser Zeilen, als er vor rund 15 Jahren in einer Wiener Buchhandlung zwei kleine scharlachrote Bändchen kaufte, bei denen es sich um das vorliegende Werk in einer Ausgabe der Psychosophischen Gesellschaft Zürich handelte. Ohne die geringsten Vorkenntnisse las er das sonderbare Werk in einem durch und war wie vom Blitz getroffen, was weniger am Inhalt des Buches lag, von dem er wohl kaum allzu viel verstanden hatte, als vielmehr daran, daß er in dem ganzen Werk nur eine einzige Botschaft gelesen hatte, die in seinem Inneren einen mächtigen Widerhall fand und seinem Leben von diesem Zeitpunkt an eine völlig neue Richtung gab - nämlich die, daß durch Magie alles möglich ist." - Einband leicht berieben; Schnitt u. ganz wenige Seiten leicht fleckig, sonst ein gutes Expl.

Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Original printing, one of only 500 copies, scarce in any condition. The thin fabric used for the spine is notoriously fragile, so the fact that this is intact, if still tenuous, makes it good condition. Dust wear to boards, some chipping to boards at corners. Paper label on spine is half chipped away…. A few pages have light foxing, but the majority of pages are clean. Binding is intact but should be handled gently. This is an original 1912 printing of the third book of The Equinox- a compilation of esoteric poetry, fiction, and occult instruction, published biannually between 1909 and 1913 and edited by Alister Crowley.
