Sie analysiert dazu die Sprachdaten jugendlic…her Sprecherinnen und Sprecher aus dem Raum Schleswig und weist nach, dass die Kinder und Jugendlichen trotz massiver hochdeutscher Beeinflussung über eine intakte niederdeutsche Grammatik verfügen: "Kinder und Jugendliche, die mit Niederdeutsch als Muttersprache aufwachsen, sind trainierte Bilinguale, die sich durch die systematische Anwendung von Entlehnungstransfer zwei weitgehend isomorphe, leicht konvertierbare Kodes schaffen." Die Autorin widerlegt damit verbreitete Vorurteile über die mangelnde "Dialektfestigkeit" von Kindern und Jugendlichen. Das Buch zeigt eine Momentaufnahme des kontaktinduzierten Sprachwandels und liefert einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Dokumentation einer (mà glicherweise) aussterbenden Sprache. Gleichzeitig nutzt die Autorin die spezifischen strukturellen und soziolinguistischen Merkmale der hochdeutsch-niederdeutschen Kontaktsituation zur Ãberprüfung aktueller Kodewechsel-Theorien, um schlieÃlich einen eigenen Ansatz zur Abgrenzung von Kodewechsel- und Entlehnungsmechanismen zu entwickeln.
