Hardbound. Condizione: Fair. 2nd Edition. Description: Figure illustrations and equations. From the preface to the second edition: ''More than thirteen years have elapsed since the manuscript of the first edition was completed. For some time it has been clear that a second edition was needed. When I started to contemplate what changes should be made, it soon became clear that, if the book were to cover even approximately the same ground as the first edition did, it would have to be greatly expanded. It was then decided to split the book into two parts, the first volume covering the basic theory; a second volume, advanced theory. As a result he present volume is now probably more suitable as a textbook for advanced undergraduate courses.'' That first edition appeared in 1954. BINDING/CONDITION: red cloth binding with white and gold; owner's name and brief note on the ''front'' endpaper -- I use the term ''front'' because the contents have been bound in upside down -- just turn it over and once the book is open, you never notice. Quite obvious and momentarily puzzling when opened for the first time though. Graded Fair just due to binding error. Still a sound working copy. bibliographical notes, glossary, index. 8vo (9.25 inches tall). 316 pages.
Condizione: As New. Unread book in perfect condition.
Hardbound. Condizione: Good. Description: Figure illustrations and equations. From the preface: ''This is essentially an enlarged and revised second edition of a collection of problems which consisted of a text by Gol'dman and Krivchenkov augmented by a selection from a similar text by Kogan and Galitskii. In preparing the present edition I have used the opportunity to revise some of the problems in the first edition, to change a few of the solutions, and to make the notations both uniform and conforming to English usage. Also, I have added a few problems from a collection by Irodov on atomic physics and a number of new problems which were mainly taken from Oxford University Examination papers.'' BINDING/CONDITION: blue cloth with gilt spine text; owner's name stamp on the front endpaper; otherwise a Very Good book; no dust jacket. index. 8vo (9.25 inches tall). 402 pages.

Hardbound. Condizione: Fair. Description: Figure illustrations and equations. This is part of the Addison-Wesley Series in Advanced Physics, under the general editorship of Morton Hamermesh. From the preface: ''The present book is a theoretical text. That is, it presupposes a certain familiarity with the experimental side of heat phenomena through a course of general physics. Chapters 1 and 2 give a survey of basic concepts. Unlike other parts of theoretical physics, thermodynamics demands very little by way of mathematical tools -- only the elements of calculus. In spite of this formal simplicity thermodynamics has a veil of abstractness which must be penetrated in order to master the subject. One way of doing this is to draw at once upon the molecular mechanical theory of heat. This will ultimately give satisfaction. However, since molecular theory must be inferred from macroscopic experience -- and not vice versa -- the phenomenological approach to thermodynamics is followed in this book. Once that approach is assimilated, it gives a natural starting point from which to proceed to statistical mechanics.'' BINDING/CONDITION: gray cloth with burgundy and gilt on the spine; owner's name and brief note on the front endpaper; a sound working copy; graded Fair due to edge and corner rubbing; no dust jacket. appendices, index. 8vo (9.25 inches tall). 160 pages.
