He never used traps or dogs, but rather preferred to stalk his bears with a rifle. With an eye for detail, sharpened by his many years in law enforcement, Carr tells what to look for when tracking a bear. He has been charged several times by bears, and he explains why charges happen and what to do to avoid calamity. He tells of the best bullets and calibers to use on bear and the best places to shoot a bear to deliver that killing shot.
