Édition originale très rare de ce recueil entièrement gravé, constituant "l'une des plus belles suites de vénerie publiées au XVIIIe siècle" (Thiébaud). Il se compose d'une page de titre, du portrait du Marquis de Dampierre gravé par Henriquez, et de 61 pages contenant : un avertissement, 13 titres de fanfares, 29 fanfares avec airs notés et 9 planches de scènes de chasse, dessinées par Breton, gravées par L. Henriquez. La page 60 est vierge ; chaque page, y compris le titre, est entourée d'un encadrement floral avec attributs cynégétiques. Les neuf estampes de Breton sont intitulées : Les animaux. - Le rut des cerfs. - Le valet de limier au bois. - L'assemblée. - La chasse du cerf. - Les chasseurs crient Vol-cel' est. - La mort du cerf. - La curée. - La chasse du sanglier. Il est à noter que la planche initialement intitulée "Le rut des cerfs" a été, dans notre exemplaire, caviardée : la scène d'accouplement du cerf et de la biche, présentée au milieu de la gravure, a été très soigneusement transformée anciennement par un esprit prude et une main habile, en innocente scène de forêt ; la légende de la gravure passe ainsi de "Le rut des cerfs" à "La réunion des cerfs". "Première édition séparée des fanfares du Marquis de Dampierre, véritable créateur de la musique de chasse.
