Working within the respective contexts of Neoplasticism, Abstract Expressionism and Minimalism, Mondrian, Newman and Flavin combined abstract color and concrete form, forging instantly recognizable, stripped-down vocabularies that radically expanded (and simplified) the language of abstraction.
