Das heterogene Vater-Sohn-Gespann begibt sich auf eine ausgedehnte Spurensuche, die dem einstigen Weg des Wehrmachtsregiments des ihnen unbekannten Sanitätsunteroffiziers bis kurz vor Moskau folgt und dabei mit kaum verheilten Narben des 2. Weltkrieges genauso konfrontiert wird, wie auch mit eigenen, bis dato unausgesprochenen seelischen Wunden. Die sehr persönlichen Fotografien, die Tom Licht von dieser Reise zurückbringt und nun in diesem Buch veröffentlicht, können uns nur erahnen lassen, wie vor dem Hintergrund der Kriegsgrauen und am Beispiel der eigenen tragischen Familiengeschichte, das millionenfache Schicksal einer vaterlosen Nachkriegsgeneration bis heute seine Auswirkungen zeigt.Tom Licht absolvierte die Postgraduiertenklasse an der Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin bei Ute Mahler und Robert Lyons. Er lebt und arbeitet in Zürich und Berlin.

Als die kanadische Fotografin Angela Boehm im ländlichen Saskatchewan aufwuchs, waren lange und kalte Winter ein fester und dauerhafter… Bestandteil ihrer Jugend. Die Erfahrung tiefen Winters, der Stille und Schwere, der Einsamkeit in der Natur hinterließen bleibende, tiefe Erinnerungen bei Ihr. Im Jahr 2021 begann sie, Schneestürme in Saskatchewan zu fotografieren und stellte sich dabei die selbstgewählte Regel, nur bei minus 30 Grad oder kälter zu arbeiten. Sie hält mit diesen Bildern ihr Gefühl des Winters fest, einer Jahreszeit, die sich langsam zu verändern scheint. 2023 gab es keine Tage mehr unter Minus 30. So rau und unwirtlich die Kälte, das Eis, das endlose Weiss der Landschaften vordergründig erscheinen, in Wahrheit ist der Winter auch nur Teil eines zerbrechlich-fragilen Gleichgewichts, das unser Planet gerade zu verlieren droht. Gestaltung, Aufmachung, Papier, Druck und Bindung dieses Buches sollen auf die Erfahrungen beim Aufnehmen der Bilder und Erinnerungen der Fotografin subtil auf Papier fixieren.

However, the actual meaning of the term 'chalet', derived from the Latin word cala: 'protected place', is simply that of an Alpine dairy hut oder shelter. On his many trips through his adopted home, Patrick Lambertz has run into many houses that do not conform to the cliché of the Swiss chalet. They are old houses that barely managed to escape the building and renovation boom that has plagued the country for decades. By photographing them in front of a wintery backdrop he abstracts these houses from their context, heightens their individual character, and provides them with an aura of poetry and irony. Following the tradition of Karl Blossfeldt and Bernd and Hilla Becher, Lambertz creates a typological canon of forgotten, yet memorable Swiss houses. Nature itself provides the photo studio: cloudy skies and dense fog provide soft light with little contrast.
