Paperback. Condizione: New. This book offers an ecological conceptualisation of physical literacy. Re-embracing our ancestry as hunter gatherers we gain a new appreciation and understanding of the importance of play, not only in terms of how children learn, but also in showing us as educators how we can lay the foundations for lifelong physical activity. The concept of physical literacy has been recognised and understood throughout history by different communities across the globe. Today, as governments grapple with the multiple challenges of urban life in the 21st century, we can learn from our forebears how to put play at the centre of children's learning in order to build a more enduring physically active society. This book examines contemporary pedagogical approaches, such as constraints-led teaching, nonlinear pedagogy and the athletic skills model, which are underpinned by the theoretical framework of Ecological Dynamics. It is suggested that through careful design, these models, aimed at children, as well as young athletes, can (i) encourage play and facilitate physical activity and motor learning in children of different ages, providing them with the foundational skills needed for leading active lives; and (ii), develop young athletes in elite sports programmes in an ethical, enriching and supportive manner. Through this text, scientists, academics and practitioners in the sub-disciplines of motor learning and motor development, physical education, sports pedagogy and physical activity and exercise domains will better understand how to design programmes that encourage play and thereby develop the movement skills, self-regulating capacities, motivation and proficiency of people, so that they can move skilfully, effectively and efficiently while negotiating changes throughout the human lifespan.…

Endpapers of book by Daniel Buren. "Since public museums came into being in the late 18th century, artists have looked upon them with a mixture of reverence, complicity, suspicion, and disdain. In The Museum as Muse, artists of many persuasions speak their minds about museums, their functions and spaces, their practices and politics, and their relationship to the art they contain. More than 60 artists are represented by a wide range of works: photographs of museum patrons by Henri Cartier-Bresson and Elliot Erwitt; 'personal museums' and 'cabinets of curiosities' by Charles Wilson Peale, Marcel Duchamp, and Claes Oldenburg; fantasies of the destruction or transformation of museums by Hubert Robert, Ed Ruscha, and Christo and more, including works created especially for this project by contemporary artists, and an anthology of statements and writings by artists about museums. This volume was published to accompany an exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, New York." -- publisher's statement. Very Good. Light wear to dust-jacket including a 6 mm. tear to spine edge and bumping of upper edge of recto. Light yellowing of page edges. Contents otherwise clean and unmarked.…

Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. "Missing Daniel" is a true story about the brief life of a young sailor named Danny who was found dead on a U.S. Navy base in Vietnam. Danny was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, the youngest of eight children and the namesake of the author. His life was cut short in a war zone in Vietnam, and the author grew up in the shadow of a loss that consumed his grandparents, his family, and especially his mother, Jean.Years later, he came to understand the depth of his grandmother's grief at the loss of her Danny. The author can still hear his mother Jean's voice calling out his name and often wondered if, each time she spoke his name, it brought back the painful memories of losing her brother. The U.S. Navy classified Danny's manner of death (MOD) as an accident, or so we were told. For years, our family has endured countless rumors surrounding the tragic event that took Danny's life, each one adding to the uncertainty about what truly happened. To this day, we have never been provided with the official findings of the JAG investigation into his death.Though he is gone, he is never forgotten. The purpose of this book is to piece together the facts and seek the truth about what really happened to Danny on November 10th, 1969. Danny was the only casualty from CBMU-302 during the command's extensive tour in Vietnam.Through interviews with family, friends, and members of CBMU-302, the author seeks to reconstruct Danny's life and how he died in the relative safety of a military base. Built upon years of research, this book now invites you, the reader, to assume the role of investigator and carefully examine the evidence to determine what may have occurred on that fateful day in Vietnam.
