Tollitt's 5-page 1986 article, "Dates and authorship of the text volumes of the Histoire naturelle section of Savigny's description de L'Egypte; that is followed by a photocopy of Savigny's 1827 56-page explanation of plates (photocopy of text only, with no plates). This bound photocopy was used as a reference volume for the Mollusks Dept. of a natural history museum (although there are no marks to so indicate that fact). Large volume, with gilt spine title, "J.C. Savigny, Egypts explanation of plates 1827." Size: 13 3/4 x 8 5/8 inches [B2:1:3].

During the Napoleonic campaign to Egypt a collection of Red Sea, Mediterranean and continental mollusks was brought together by Savigny who published upon them in 1817 as folio engravings. These served as type-figures for a number of species described by 19th century malacologists, including Audouin, Ehrenberg, Deshayes, Philippi, Hupé, Landrin, Jonas, Issel, Morlet, Vaillant, P. Fischer, Tapparone-Canefri, von Martens, Weinkauff, Monterosato, Jousseaume, H. Fischer and finally Pallary. A checklist and illustrations of 86 of these original types from the Savigny collection, now in the Paris Museum, are presented, supplemented by reproductions of the unpublished color vellums of opisthobranchs and cephalopods. 16 pp., 95 figs, 4.
