Sapphire's first novel (1996) is told in the African American vernacular voice of obese and illiterate 16-year-old Claireece Precious Jones who lives with her abusive mother in Harlem. The novel begins with Precious being pregnant with her second child by her father, who has been repeatedly raping her since childhood. After being expelled from high school due to her pregnancy, she is placed in an alternative school program where she learns to read and write with a group of other young women. As she becomes literate, her life begins to change.Of the several essays written on 'Push' most authors have focused on topics such as race and social class, food consumption and obesity, disability and the female body, rape, incest and trauma as well as on the topic of transformation. Only Riché Richardson has established a relationship between 'Push' and the slave narrative in his essay 'Close Up: Push, Precious, and New Narratives of Slavery in Harlem' by showing recurring slave narrative motifs including 'Precious' detachment from her mother and father, her sexual and physical abuse, and her quest for literary and freedom' (163).In this essay, I will go a step further and not only focus on the similarities between 'Push' and the slave narrative, but also discuss which impact the differences such as the replacement of the antebellum South into an urban setting and the replacement of slave holders into abusive and exploiting parents have on the narrative. I will begin the essay with a contextual chapter on the genre of slave narrative and its defining features. Then, I will focus on Sapphire's 'Push' and illustrate the differences to a slave narrative focusing on the urban setting of Harlem and the parents as tormentors. In a next step, I will discuss the similarities between 'Push' and the slave narrative focusing on the themes of abuse and exploitation, as well as literacy, transformation and finally on escaping and being a free member of society.

Moreover, different themes such as the loss of beloved ones, isolation and the refusal to accept change are covered in this story. There is also a variety of popular readings of A Rose for Emily emphasizing 'the conflict between the North and the South' or 'the conflict between individual and the community, between the past and the present, between men and women'. The question is of how the author depicts such complexity of character, emotion and setting Faulkner himself said that 'in a short story [.] almost every word has got to be almost exactly right' (Petry 54). As a result almost every word in a short story has a greater meaning, which is achieved using imagery and symbolism. Imagery is the representation of experiences of the senses, which uses descriptive, but also figurative language, whereas symbolism is used by 'writers to invest objects, actions or ideas with a symbolic meaning'.The symbols convey special meanings to the reader, standing for one single idea or many. This paper will analyze the function and use of imagery and symbolism in A Rose for Emily focusing on the functions of the house, how the picture of Emily is drawn, the function of the town, the characterization of the men in the protagonist s life, then the aspect of time and finally the attempt to analyze the symbol of the rose in the title trying to reveal a much imagery and symbolic meaning as possible. It will be shown, that a Rose for Emily is complex and rich in imagery, symbolism and ambiguity used by Faulkner to characterize people, describe relations and atmosphere.

Ein besonderer Fokus soll dabei auf die gesellschaftlichen Faktoren und Motive gelegt werden, die zu dieser Liberalisierung beigetragen haben.Zunächst erscheint es sinnvoll, eine Definition und Einordnung der Begriffe Sexualerziehung und -aufklärung vorzunehmen. So stellt Sexualerziehung 'die Praxis der kontinuierlichen und intendierten Einflussnahme auf die Entwicklung sexueller Motivationen, Ausdrucks- und Verhaltensformen von Kindern, Jugendlichen und Erwachsenen' dar. Im Mittelpunkt der Sexualerziehung stehen somit intentional gelenkte Lernprozesse. Sexualaufklärung ist ein Teil der Sexualerziehung und bezeichnet die vorwiegend sachlichen Informationen über biologische Prozesse der Zeugung und Fortpflanzung, sowie Fakten und Zusammenhänge zu allen anderen Themen der menschlichen Sexualität. Meist handelt es sich dabei um ein einmaliges Geschehen, welches mehr oder weniger zielgruppenorientiert ist. Während des NS-Regimes galt Sexualerziehung als 'Privileg der Familienerziehung' . Die gemeinsame Aufklärung vor der Klasse galt als 'verfehlte Sexualpädagogik' . Stattdessen wurde großen Wert auf das Wissen über Vererbungslehre, Rassenkunde, Rassenhygiene, Familienkunde und Bevölkerungspolitik gelegt, welches im Fach Biologie erteilt wurde und pflichtmäßiger Bestandteil von Abschlussprüfungen darstellte. Koch ist überzeugt, dass unter der Herrschaft der Nationalsozialisten 'das Problembewußtsein für sexuelle Fragen auf den Stand des 19. Jahrhunderts zurückgeschraubt' worden war.

First I will present a general view of the language situation in Hong Kong. Then in the third chapter some of the main phonological variations existing in Hong Kong English will be presented. In a further step, I will analyze if these variations can be found in two interviews with Hong Kong-born actor Jackie Chan who has lived and worked several years in the United States and examine how they differ from Standard English, before summing up the results in the conclusion.Hong Kong came under British control as a result of the Opium Wars with China from 1839 to 1842 and from 1856 to 1860 and developed since then as a trading centre. Throughout the British colonial period from 1842 to 1997 a minority of British administrators and traders co-existed with a large majority of Chinese traders and laborers. Since most Chinese could speak Cantonese, there was no need for a lingua franca, but only for a language to use with influential foreigners (Melchers 163). Therefore the knowledge of English was spread almost entirely through the education system, which increasingly used English as a medium (ibid.). In 1997 Hong Kong was returned to Chinese sovereignty. Today, English is very widely used in the educational and legal system and for dealing with international business partners (ibid. 164). Moreover, English is becoming 'localized' and is used to some extend for everyday interaction among locals who all speak Cantonese (ibid.). Nevertheless, the English spoken in Hong Kong differs in regard to grammar, lexis and phonological aspects from Standard English as Received Pronunciation (RP) or General American (GA).

Being confronted with social injustice or their inferiority to men a great number of the presented women sell their bodies or act immorally and unfaithfully.In order to proof my thesis I will begin by analyzing the conflictive archetypes of the virgin and the harlot in Ingmar Bergman's 'The Virgin Spring' (1960) and the Pagan and the holy fool in Andrej Tarkovsky's 'Andrei Rublev' (1969). From there I will go on and show several other archetypes like the unfaithful women, women selling their bodies and (alleged) witches by referring to Bergman's 'Seventh Seal' (1957), Robert Bresson's 'Lancelot du Lac' (1974), Leslie Megahey's 'The Hour of the Pig' (1993) and Jean-Jacques Annaud's 'The Name of the Rose' (1986).

Women were needed as nurses at the front, to work military machines as well as keep homes ready for men to come home. By entering the 'world of paid work' women were able 'to enter new domains and to exercise new economic, social and sexual power'. With husbands and possible suitors gone to serve a number of Australian women found therein 'a new sense of independence, self-reliance and autonomy'. It was a challenging time for married women and mothers with husbands gone, but also a very exciting one especially for young girls and unmarried women with thousands of American servicemen coming through Australia bringing a sense of Hollywood and sexual adventure with them.Writing this essay and gathering literature about Australian women during World War II, I soon noticed that all those authors only wrote about the immigrant Australian women, the 'new Australian woman' as I called her in my essay topic. Indigenous women, the native Australian women, were mostly left out. For that reason I included a paragraph at the end of the essay comparing both women's experiences.

Dieser Förderbedarf kann durch eine Lern-, körperliche oder geistige Behinderung begründet sein. Verschiedene Förderschultypen bieten dabei einen speziell auf die jeweiligen Beeinträchtigungen zugeschnittenen Unterricht, der den Schülern- und Schülerinnen eine bessere Entwicklung ermöglichen soll, die an einer Regelschule nicht erreichbar wäre. Allerdings können in Nordrhein-Westfalen bereits seit den 1980er Jahren Schüler mit Behinderungen auf Antrag ihrer Eltern den gemeinsamen Unterricht an Regelschulen besuchen. Dieses Angebot wird zurzeit lediglich von 19,2 % der förderbedürftigen Schüler in NRW genutzt. Doch dies könnte sich bald ändern, denn nach der Umsetzung der UN-Konvention und den Empfehlungen der Kultusministerkonferenz sollen Eltern von förderbedürftigen Kindern in Zukunft komplett selbst entscheiden können, ob ihre Kinder an einer Förderschule, einer Regelschule oder in Integrationsklassen unterrichtet werden. Bereits im Dezember 2010 beschloss der nordrhein-westfälische Landtag die Inklusion. Am 16. Oktober 2013 wurde dann das Erste Gesetz zur Umsetzung der UN-Behindertenrechtskonvention, das sogenannte Inklusionsgesetz, verabschiedet. Das Gesetz traf im Vorfeld auf massive Kritik von Vertretern von Schulen, Lehrern, Eltern, Kirchen, Kommunen, Gewerkschaften und Sozialverbänden. Diese Arbeit soll einen Überblick über die gegenwärtige Diskussion geben und aufzeigen mit welchen daraus resultierenden Herausforderungen und Veränderungen sich der Förderschullehrer konfrontiert sieht. Es soll dargestellt werden, welchen Einfluss das Inklusionsgesetz auf die Zukunft der Förderschule und das Berufsfeld des Förderschullehrers haben wird und welche Bedeutung der Gang in die inklusive Schule für sein Rollenbild hat. Die Arbeit gibt hierfür zunächst im zweiten Kapitel einen Überblick über das Inklusionsgesetz, woraufhin im dritten Kapitel die daraus resultierenden Konsequenzen, Reaktionen und Befürchtungen von Fachleuten dargestellt werden. According to the Longman New Universal Dictionary the term 'family' describes a group of people living under one roof, especially a set of two or more adults living together and rearing their children. Furthermore the term 'nuclear family' is 'used to refer to a unit consisting of spouses and their dependent children.' The family is performing 'tasks necessary to the survival of the species and to the social continuity: namely, the regulation of sexual relationship, reproduction, the socialization of children, the economic cooperation between sexes.' In both movies the family is the monster, which is according to Robin Wood among five recurrent motifs in horror movies 'a single unifying master figure'. He has noticed that the psychotic and schizophrenic are 'all shown as products of the [guilty] family'. This paper will analyze the family structure, the homes and appearance of the families, their contact to the outside world and their dealing with sexuality. In a final step I will explain the impact of those to horror movies on the audience.

Das 'Klischee' der Aufklärung des geistigen Mannes und der gefühlvollen, naiven Frau beherrschte nicht nur die Rollenverteilung in der Gesellschaft und Familie, sondern auch die Schulgründungen im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert. Es kann nicht die Rede von weiblicher Gelehrsamkeit sein, denn eine akademische wissenschaftliche Bildung war den Mädchen bis auf ganz wenige Ausnahmen nicht zugänglich.Unter Frauenbildung wurde im 19. Jahrhundert die Mädchenbildung und das Bildungsangebot verstanden, die eine Vorbereitung auf spätere Tätigkeiten als Hausfrau und Mutter bereitstellten. Crusoe names him Friday after the day of their first encounter and teaches him the English language and eventually converts him to Christianity.'Robinson Crusoe' is considered a classic which has been issued in at least 700 editions and translated into several languages. The story has been made into several movies.I want to argue, that the motif of the cannibal is instrumentalized in the novel in order to justify the conquering and civilizing of savage natives by the dominant Western world. By depicting dreadful cannibalistic acts and evoking horror and revulsion the subjects of colonialism are intended to be dehumanized. I will begin the seminar paper with a contextual chapter on cannibalism by presenting the definition and origin of the term 'cannibal', as well as the existence of cannibalism in literature by giving various examples from classic epic to contemporary novels. Then, I will focus on Defoe's Robinson Crusoe and illustrate the protagonist's constant fear of being eaten. In a next step, I will focus on Crusoe's encounters with the cannibals and in a further step on his meeting of Friday and his representation of the latter. Before drawing the conclusion, I will analyze the relationship between Crusoe and Friday.

Diese wird der Übersichtlichkeit halber in die Entwicklung vor dem Jahr 2000 und nach der Jahrtausendwende gegliedert. Daraufhin wird die gegenwärtige Situation des privaten Hochschulsektors präsentiert. Besondere Berücksichtigung finden dabei die Vielfalt privater Hochschulen anhand von Typologien, die bundesweite Situation und die regionale Verteilung mit einem besonderen Fokus auf Nordrhein-Westfalen. Außerdem werden die Zusammensetzung der Studierendenschaft nach Alter, Geschlecht und Herkunft sowie das Fächer- und Studienangebot an privaten Hochschulen betrachtet und den staatlichen gegenübergestellt. Diese Ausführungen stützen sich auf die aktuellsten vorliegenden statistischen Daten und werden anhand von Beispielen aus der Hochschullandschaft in den Fußnoten konkretisiert. Abschließend werden Erklärungsansätze für den Erfolg der privaten Hochschulen aufgezeigt.

Mai 1945 wurden die verheerenden Ausmaße und Ve…rluste des Zweiten Weltkrieges deutlich: Fast vier Millionen deutsche Soldaten waren gestorben, 11,7 Millionen wurden vermisst oder befanden sich noch in Kriegsgefangenschaft. Es sollte noch mehr als zehn Jahre dauern, bis die letzten von ihnen nach Hause zu ihren Familien zurückkehrten. Trotzdem galt 1948 als Jahr der Heimkehr und bis 1949 war der Großteil der ehemaligen Wehrmachtssoldaten zu Hause eingetroffen. In den 1950er Jahren hatten die Männer überwiegend ihre alten Plätze im Beruf und als Oberhaupt und Ernährer der Familie wieder eingenommen. Allerdings hatte sich nur einige Jahre zuvor ein anderes Bild in Deutschland dargestellt.Die Nachkriegsgesellschaft war eine Frauengesellschaft. Laut Statistik lebten 1945 sieben Millionenen mehr Frauen als Männer in Deutschland. Es gab allein 3,7 Millionen alleinstehende Frauen zwischen 20 und 40 Jahren, die keine Aussicht hatten einen männlichen Partner zu finden. Die meisten Frauen waren nach dem Kriegsende bedingt durch Männermangel, Verwitwung oder Scheidung auf sich alleine gestellt und verstanden Arbeiten als wirtschaftliche Notwendigkeit, um ihre Familienangehörigen zu versorgen. Für diese Millionen von Frauen, die sich selbst und ihre Kinder ohne männlichen 'Ernährer' und Familienvorstand durchbringen mussten, bedeutete das Ende des Krieges keinen Neuanfang, sondern lediglich eine Fortsetzung ihrer Arbeit unter erschwerten Bedingungen.Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, darzustellen ob überhaupt und wenn inwiefern sich die traditionelle Frauenrolle durch die neuen Anforderungen und Lebensumstände vorrangig der alleinstehenden - der ledigen, geschiedenen und verwitweten - Frauen verändern konnte.
