It has been published continuously since its first issue in 1888, nine months after the Society itself was founded. It primarily contains articles about geography, history, and world culture. The magazine is known for its extensive use of dramatic photographs. The magazine is published monthly, and additional map supplements are also included with subscriptions. On occasion, special editions of the magazine are issued. The first issue of National Geographic Magazine was published on September 22, 1888, nine months after the Society was founded. Starting with its January 1905 publication of several full-page pictures of Tibet in 1900-1901, the magazine changed from being a text-oriented publication closer to a scientific journal to featuring extensive pictorial content, and became well known for this style. John Hyde was the first editor. This issue includes: New Hampshire, The Granite State by George Higgins Moses with 48 Illustrations, New England's Wonderland with 14 Natural Color Photographs, Coasting Through the Bay State by Clifton Adams with 12 Natural Color Photographs, Through the Land of Roger Williams with 14 Natural Color Photographs, A World Inside a Mountain by Bernard R. Hubbard with 36 Illustrations, The Koala, or Australian Teddy Bear by F. Lewis with 13 Illustrations, and Sailing Forbidden Coasts by Ida Treat with 32 Illustrations. George Higgins Moses (February 9, 1869 - December 20, 1944) was a U.S. diplomat and political figure. He served as a United States Senator from New Hampshire and was chosen as the Senate's President pro tempore. He was private secretary to Governor David H. Goodell from 1889 to 1891. Moses then went into journalism, working as a reporter, news editor, and chief editor for the Concord Evening Monitor from 1892 to 1918. Moses was a member of the New Hampshire Forestry Commission from 1893 to 1907, and served as the commission's secretary. In 1909 Moses was appointed by President William Howard Taft to be the United States Minister to Greece and Montenegro, and he served until 1912. In 1918 Moses was elected to the United States Senate from New Hampshire from 1918. He served until 1933 and was President pro tempore from 1925 to 1933. Bernard Rosecrans Hubbard (1888-1962) was an American geologist and explorer who popularized the Alaskan wilderness in American media during the middle of the 20th century. Known as "the Glacier Priest", he was a Jesuit priest, head of the Department of Geology at the University of Santa Clara, California, and for a time was the highest-paid lecturer in the world, leading 31 expeditions into Alaska and the Arctic. From 1927 to 1962, Hubbard undertook regular expeditions to Alaska during the summer, touring in the winter as a lecturer. Hubbard's first trip to Alaska was a study of the Juneau Icefield. In 1929 he visited the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes, sparking his interest in volcanology. In 1930 he undertook the first significant expedition to the largely unknown volcanic crater at Mount Aniakchak, returning in 1931 after the Yukon trip and again in 1932. On subsequent trips Hubbard explored the upper reaches of Taku Glacier and made a crossing of the Bering Strait by canoe. Ida Treat was born in Joliet, Illinois, in 1899 and attended Western Reserve University. After earning a doctorate in letters at the University of Paris she returned in 1913 to Western Reserve, where she taught romance languages for the next seven years. In the 1920s she went back to France, where she lived as a writer and journalist for more than twenty years. While working as a correspondent for Paris Vu in the 1930s, she traveled throughout Europe, China, and the South Pa.
