There is a long introductory examination of the short story, entitled, "Notes on Reading, Writing and Editing" by Dashiell, followed by 16 stories all chosen to show "every variety of this literary form". Each story ends with a short analysis by Dashiell. An Appendix at rear gives lists of Favorite and Famous Stories. Authors included are Thomas Wolfe, William Faulkner, Checkov, Fitzgerald, O. Henry, etc. The spine panel is badly faded, otherwise a very good copy, internally clean and tightly bound. Possibly a variant binding - I've seen other first printings bound in dark brown cloth - this one is red.
