Laminated Pictorial Boards. Condizione: Very Good -. No Jacket. Limited/Numbered. Once Around Lightly(or, Hollywood, What Did You Do To Me?) by Dave Jablow was published by Friends of Dave Jablow in 1954. Not an ex-library copy, this 7" X 10", 158-page, 57-year-old, Limited First Edition offering is in VG- condition. There is some quite modest yellowing of text's pages, and some barely noticeable shelf wear at the four outer tips of front and back cover boards, on an otherwise pretty darn nice book, condition-wise, at age 57. This would appear to be book No. 1373 from a private printing funded by donations sent to the author which also helped finance his actual trip around the world in February and March, 1953. Although the author had promised that all of his "contributors" would receive a/this book sixty days after his return(a promise that Jablow wasn't able to keep--he just wasn't aware of the time involved in both writing, and then correcting and finally printing and binding a book), his friends WERE able to receive their copies in 1954, and this is one of those copies that has made its way to us, to in turn make available to you. So far as I can tell, the author was no one special or influential. In fact, it would seem that he was half-owner and salesman in a men's clothing store in New York City, New York, who just happened to have a bit of the wanderlust as a significant part of his makeup. What parts of this book that I did read show it to be a rather well-detailed, warm and personal retelling of the many aspects and experiences of his 7-week excursion, which began in London. He then moved on, in succession, to such locales as Paris, Rome, Istanbul, New Delhi, Siam(present-day Thailand), Hong Kong, Japan, Honolulu, and, finally, to Los Angeles, and home to La Guardia airport and New York. Certainly a broad slice of Americana, and a window into the thoughts and opinions of at least one, individual American as to how he saw the world at large in 1953(and, you'll read, how the world at large viewed him, in return).
