Sheet Music. Condizione: Fair. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. This is oversized sheet music. The music is in Fair condition - but is complete. The edges of the covers and the inner pages have chipping and edge tears. The spine of the covers has completely split. While not much is published about the composer of this song, it seems that Dave Reed, Jr. Was following in his father's shoes - Dave Reed Sr. worked in / with minstrel shows for some period of time. Most of Dave Jr's works involve minstrelsy or are about African American men and women. "The minstrel show, also called minstrelsy, was an American form of racist entertainment developed in the early 19th century. Each show consisted of comic skits, variety acts, dancing, and music performances that depicted people specifically of African descent. The shows were performed by mostly white people in make-up or blackface for the purpose of playing the role of black people. There were also some African-American performers and black-only minstrel groups that formed and toured. Minstrel shows lampooned black people as dim-witted, lazy, buffoonish, superstitious, and happy-go-lucky." (from Wikipedia).…

Wraps. Condizione: Good. Folio. Six pages, including covers. Front cover with racist depictions of African-Americans, although it's possible it's the equally racist depiction of whites in blackface. Music to a march song that introduced the "Darkey Cavaliers," presumably a troupe that performed in Blackface. Research indicates Reed composed several racist songs, apparently trying to cash in on this genre of performance that depicted Black Americans as buffoons and solidified racism as an acceptable norm in American culture at the time. GOOD condition. Spine completely reinforced with tape. Covers a bit toned, with some soiling. Moderate chipping and tearing along the edges. Paper browned in the interior.…
