Fourth edition. BAL 4497, second issue, containing 35 letters (32 letters listed in the Table of Contents). BAL notes that due to the enormous popularity of this title (6 edition six 1894), the printed spine labels are frequently incorrect. Faded 1918 ownership inscription; pencil ownership signatures; text block a bit cockled; but tight, sound, and quite attractive.

Illustrated by a frontis, engraved 2nd tp & 6 tipped in plates. Most pages lightly foxed but no aging, soiling or marginalia. Original paper spine label clearly reads "Major Downing's Letters to Dwight". GOOD book. VG inside. Original green cloth, paper spine label.
