Soft cover. Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. Original staple-bound green printed wraps 22x28cm. (4)pp prelims including covering letter from Glen Brown to Fadil Kabbani, Deputy Minister for Mineral Resources, 4pp text printed to the rectos only, with 3 folding figures in pocket (complete, with all present as called for). Wraps fai…r, tanned with closed tears at the edges, restapled. Interiors very good with ink offsetting to the blank versos (not affecting text). This report is a very early "preliminary" product of the monumental USGS-Aramco mapping project (1956-63), which, among other things, produced 21 Geological maps covering the whole of Saudi Arabia in a series of Quadrangles numbered I-200A to I-220A. It was prepared under the follow-up Saudi Arabian Mineral Exploration Project launched in 1963, which Brown coordinated from Jeddah. This report was a joint effort, with Akhrass representing the Directorate General for Mineral Resources. The area, named after the Red Sea port of Al Qunfidhah, the largest settlement within it, lies within the Tihamat Ash-Sham Quadrangle (covered by Map I-216A). Field operations were conducted simultaneously during 9-16 April 1967 with geologic mapping by helicopter from a camp near Al Khamis, about 31km to the west. Work was cut short due to poor weather and flying conditions. The folded sheets include 2 location maps, and electromagnetic horizontal coil profiles. Very rare. Brown's covering letter states 20 copies were sent to Kabbani. Additional copies would have been circulated within USGS and probably Aramco. Worldcat locates two at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, and Colorado School of Mines (OCLC 182585261). USGS reissued it in 1969 as Open-File Report 69-68 (USGS website).
