The shop, run by the Dawson family for over a century, was a cultural hub for collectors and enthusiasts and published numerous limited editions. [From inside front cover] We are pleased to offer a selection of Southern California artwork encompassing the period from the late 1880's to the 1950's, with several more contemporary works. The subjects range from landscapes of the region, city views, California missions and bird's-eye views to portraits and magazine illustrations. We have included the work of a few photographers as well: Albert Hiller, James Doolittle, Ernest Pratt and W. H. Rabe. The sizes given on the prints are the printed area, not including margins, with height preceding width. All loose leaf artwork on paper is matted with archival board, unless otherwise noted. Both catalogues in good condition, catalogue 372 is marked "Dup" in red ink on face, and covers of both catalogues have pairs of small puncture marks, probably left from staples. The two catalogues together form the first such offering of ukiyo-e paintings in the US. Two-page preface to first catalogue. Catalogues were edited by Dr. Richard Lane. Catalogue 352, while representing a new category, was also Part V of the shop's series Japanese Picture Scrolls and Paintings. We include with the two a third catalogue, no. 351, which was part IV of that series. Two of the catalogues, nos. 351 and 372, have a mailing address in the space provided on the back cover.
