Aggiungi al carrelloVellum (Hardcover). Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. Parchment (Hardcover), 21 x 15 cm, (50)+650+(40) pages, Dutch, First edition, condition: Very Good The work on civil law was first published in 1569 in Latin. This is the first Dutch edition. On the title page is a portrait of the author, and the book contains 13 beautiful full-page engravings in the text, all with the text: Vidua H.I.A. Wouw excud. These have been copied from the woodcuts of the first Latin edition. One of the prints (p. 419) is signed W.H. fecit, this is Willem de Haen. Joos de Damhouder (Bruges, November 25, 1507 - Antwerp, January 22, 1581) was a jurist, author, and senior official. During the religious turmoil, De Damhouder chose the Catholic side and the Spanish leadership of the country. De Damhouder wrote legal works that were regarded as standard works throughout Europe. He published them in Latin, and they were translated into French, German, and Dutch. He alternated his residence between Brussels and Antwerp, where he died in 1581. He was buried next to his wife in the Church of Our Lady in Bruges. His gravestone was possibly made according to a design by Pieter Pourbus. [This description may have been translated by AI.]. Humanist treatise of moral and scholarly learning, written in Latin with some sections in Greek, focused on the figure of the commander of fifty men and on ethical, biblical, and Aristotelian reflections.
