Aggiungi al carrelloFirst edition. 8vo, Original printed boards, 190 pages. Includes illustrations and facsimiles. 21 cm. In English. The German original was published at Stuttgart in 1849 under title, "Das sechste und siebente Buch Mosis, as Theil 6 in Bibliothek der Zauber-, Geheimniss- und Offenbarungs-Bücher ., herausgegeben von J. Scheible." Part I. The magic of the Israelites, pages 28-64, is translated from J. Ennemoser's Geschichte der Magie. "The Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses is an 18th- or 19th-century magical text allegedly written by Moses, and passed down as hidden (or lost) books of the Hebrew Bible. Self-described as 'the wonderful arts of the old Hebrews, taken from the Mosaic books of the Kabbalah and the Talmud", it is actually a grimoire, or text of magical incantations and seals, that purports to instruct the reader in the spells used to create some of the miracles portrayed in the Bible as well as to grant other forms of good fortune and good health. The work contains reputed Talmudic magic names, words, and ideograms, some written in Hebrew and some with letters from the Latin alphabet. It contains 'Seals' or magical drawings accompanied by instructions intended to help the user perform various tasks, from controlling weather or people to contacting the dead or Biblical religious figures." (Wikipedia) "Lauron William de Laurence was an American hypnotist, occult author and publisher, and a self styled spiritual authority who gained notoriety in the early 20th century as both a cult leader and promoter of esoteric teachings. He was arrested multiple times over the course of his career, most notably in 1912 for operating the Order of the Black Rose, a cult accused of physically and mentally abusing its members, distributing narcotics, and engaging in trance induced orgies, ritual whippings, and hypnotic domination. Despite these controversies, de Laurence became a prolific occult author and mail-order publisher and salesman. His works, particularly his widely circulated edition of the Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses, had a lasting influence on magical practices throughout the African diaspora in the Americas and the Caribbean."
