Soft cover. Condizione: Good. Leon Guipon (illustratore). This is the November 17, 1900 issue of "Harper's Bazar, A Weekly Magazine for Women" (Volume XXXIII, No. 46). "Harper's Bazar" was one of the most influential periodicals in publishing history, being a preeminent women's magazines of its day. A great source for vintage fashion ideas, it is filled with beautifully illustrated fashion displays, top-notch stories by favorite authors and articles by experts on numerous topics guaranteed to be of interest to Edwardian women, what was there not to fascinate subscribers? In this issue, along with numerous Women's Fashion Illustrations, there is a continuation of a Wouldbegoods story by Edith Nesbit. This story features the wonderful drawings of Reginald Birch. Readers could sigh with comfortable pleasure for William Dean Howells continued account of Nathaniel Hawthorne's fictional heroines. Long before ETSY, there were individuals doing home-made gifts, and Harper's Bazar focused on some do-it-yourself projects that seem just like today. To be "with it" in 1900 meant one read "Harper's Bazar". Women who paid attention to culture and style paid attention to this entertaining and informative magazine. There are also some fascinating period advertisements , and especially the unusual (for its time) full color advertisement for Shredded Wheat recipes. There is much of charm and interest in this November 1900 issue, including fiction, poetry , articles on fashion (The horse show!), dinners, all sorts of useful advice and interesting advertisements. The detailed information on fashion alone is priceless for the social historian, home dress-maker, and costumer alike. Softcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: No Dust Jacket. Dean, Ronald (illustratore). First Edition. Size: 4to. Illustrated wraps, XIII, 72 pages, Biographies. From the Foreword: "The aim of the publication of this anthology of memoirs was to allow those who've lived long lives to capture a portion of their history, of the time and places they inhabited, in order to validate their lives and provide a legacy about times and places that might otherwise be lost to history. The program, a collaborative effort by Rivier College in the Hunt Community, was made possible by a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities Council." From the Preface: "The memoirs collected in these pages took shape during a project sponsored by the New Hampshire Humanities Council for senior citizens living at the Hunt Community. These men and women have lived very interesting lives and we wanted them to capture or portion of their history, of their unique times and places, to provide a legacy for their families and for future generations. Ranging in age from sixty to ninety-six, our writers read and they talked, and they wrote. . . and they wrote . . . and they wrote some more." Memoirs were contributed by Sarah Abramson, Ruth H. Appleton, Ruth E. Byrd, Edith V. Cheever, Ethel Thornquist Cleveland, Priscilla Clara Evans, Evelyn R. Fenno, Elinor K. D. Lewis, Marion A. Lugg, Vin Nolan, Marie C. Post, Max Richter, Catherine V.
