The major portion of the collection of illustrated letters belonged to the C. M. Russell Museum in the Trigg Collection. Albert Trigg maintained a lifelong friendship with Russell. Russell claimed to be a poor letter writer and put it off for as long as possible. As he drew toward the end of his life, he became more and more nostalgic for the past, often writing to his old cowboy pals and recalling the days on the open range. These letters poignantly document Russell's fondest memories and those people most important to him. This collection of letters will help the reader better understand this extraordinary individual.
