Cover decorations are stamped in gilt and white. Gilt is still bright and shiny. White parts are intact with almost no flaking. There is a full-color, oval illustration of a Christy girl mounted on the front cover. The attractive endpapers were designed by Margaret Armstrong, and are signed MA. Margaret Armstrong also contributed designs for the title page and ornamental page borders/backgrounds (tinted pale yellowish-green), as well as a few other decorations. There are over 40 orange-tinted drawings, mostly full page, by Howard Chandler Christy. The cover design for this book was by Virginia Keep, not Margaret Armstrong. See Gullans / Espey 218b. Margaret Armstrong is certainly the most influential woman in book cover design and she was extremely prolific.
