Soft cover. Condizione: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Japanese and Chinese text with foreword and captions in English.; Paperback; 21.5 x 30 cm; 1.1 Kg; 196 pages with colour illustrations.; Used with signs of wear on the exterior, namely edge wear and some scuffs and wear marks on the front cover, spine and bck cover. Interior in very good condition.; "In 1979, the site of the Imperial Factory was excavated in the Zhushan District at the center of the Jingdezhen city, and the accurate picture of the Imperial porcelain production, then unknown, was unveiled. The investigations have been conducted intermittently since that time, and the world attention is drawn to their development. The excavations are carried out by The Jingdezhen Institute of Ceramic Archeology. And we are very fortunate to be able to hold this Exhibition, "Imperial Porcelain: Recent Discoveries of Jingdezhen Ware" in full support of The Institute. Even though the exhibits include examples from the Five Dynasties (10c.) to middle Ming Dynasty (16c.), the main focus of the Exhibition is Yuan through the Yongle, Xuande, Chenghua reigns of Ming Dynasty, the times of which Jingdezhen was most productive and prosperous. Along with white porcelain and blue-and-white ceramics, some 200 exhibits in the Exhibition include the wares which are not normally found in the present ceramics collections, such as the Yongle and Xuande porcelains decorated with various overglaze enamels, red and dark blue glazes and the Chenghua doucai, celadon, peacock-blue glaze wares. Also rare and important is the largest blue-and-white vase of the Ming Dynasty belonging to the Zhengtong reign. Zhengtong was usually considered the Dark Age in the Jingdezhen history; therefore, this newly discovered vase, being exhibited outside of China for the first time, would surely attract much attention of the ceramic lovers in Japan. The Exhibition also displays 32 selected masterpieces which have been handed down in the Japanese collections for comparison with the excavated examples. We hope this Exhibition will help to understand the significance of Jingdezhen in the history of Chinese ceramic art and will also contribute in deepening the Chinese ceramic studies." excerpt from the foreword, January, 1995 by the Organizers. …
