Beginning with conceptual frameworks that examine empire as interpretive strategy, pedagogical tool, and cartographic representation, the collection traces contested historiographies from Hiatt's spatial analyses and Dahlheim's Mishra-Ferguson debates to Knopf's Arctic explorations and Müller's Australian educational narratives. The comparative analysis juxtaposes British formations with Ottoman and Roman predecessors through Landry's Evliya Çelebi as postimperial time-traveler, Furlanetto's Ottoman utopias in Elif Shafak, and Stroh's Londinium as Roman-British palimpsest, revealing how different empires provide symbolic repertoires for cultural production. The investigation extends to historical media as archives of imperial affect: Zwierlein's eighteenth-century panoramas as proto-postcolonial counter-narratives, Raiskin's travel advertisements merging neo-colonial militarism with tourist fantasy, and Timo Müller's Bond films as barometers of post-imperial anxiety. Contemporary literary case studies from Phillips, Beukes, Sinha, Roy, and Levy demonstrate how twenty-first-century fiction employs speculative realism and historical fantasy to reimagine post-empire communities through themes of toxic terror, precarious belonging, and contested agency. The theoretical framework draws on Hutcheon's complicitous critique, Stoler's generative archives, Saldívar's postrace aesthetics, and Hardt-Negri's decentralized Empire to analyze how imperial repertoires simultaneously critique and perpetuate power structures. -- This collection's distinctiveness lies in its refusal to treat empire as closed history, instead analyzing it as a flexible repertoire and media ecology that mutates across time. Its temporal breadth spans 18th-century visual culture to contemporary speculative fiction, while its cross-empire comparative methodology examines Ottoman, Roman, and British formations symmetrically rather than through anglophone exceptionalism. The volume is particularly valuable for its exploration of how imperial tolerance mechanisms inform current transnational organizations from the EU to ASEAN, its development of theoretical vocabulary for understanding contemporary domination without formal imperialism, and its prescient connections to platform imperialism and algorithmic governance. Researchers gain a durable methodological framework for analyzing imperial continuities across media forms, practitioners access insights into how imperial legacies shape contemporary identity politics and cultural production, while advanced students receive sophisticated tools for examining the paradoxical persistence of imperial imaginaries in ostensibly postcolonial contexts.
