A novel of village life in contemporary West Africa, written by a white author, well-meaning but nonetheless embarrassingly paternalistic, in a way that is neatly embodied in Joyce Cary's introduction: "I wish Africans who read it may be inspired to explore and record the religious life of old Africa before it is utterly lost and forgotten." "Denys Craig" was the pseudonym, apparently used for this book only, of British novelist and composer Dennis Gray Stoll (1912-1987). Signed.
