Richard Avedon, as editor, sieved through the thousands of pictures in Lartigue's seventy-year collection, selecting those that best represent Lartigue's vision of the twentieth-century. FROM THE LIBRARY OF PETE TOWNSEND, with page numbers written in green pencil by him to title page and the relevant song marked with a green cross. Interestingly the one Cole Porter song Townshend covered "Begin the Beguine" is not marked. Perhaps these are others he thought of covering. Pages browned otherwise a clean and sound copy in wrapper that is very woirn and rubbed to extremities.
