Le premier ouvrage, celui de Paul BROCA (1824-1880), médecin, anatomiste et anthropologue français, est d'une GRANDE RARETÉ, comme la plupart des plaquettes qui composent ce recueil. ENVOIS AUTOGRAPHES DES AUTEURS sur cinq des sept publications, tous adressés à ALPHONSE GUÉRIN (1816-1895), médecin, chirurgien et professeur des hôpitaux de Paris. S'appuyant sur les travaux de Pasteur, ce dernier développa une théorie microbienne de l'infection.
