Fade Cut features works from Shimoyama's Barbershop series, in which he transforms the hyper-masculine African American barbershop into an imagined queer fantasy. The installation, acclaimed in the United States, creates a welcoming, fictional space where people from all walks of life can freely express themselves. The book includes reflections on Shimoyama's themes by Serlachius Museums director Pauli Sivonen, collections and exhibitions manager Laura Kuurne, and the artist himself.
