A low-budget space exploration film about a spaceship carrying a multinational group of scientists, engineers, and researchers to the moon, where they discover an entire civilization of peace-loving extraterrestrials. Though working with a pitiable budget, the producers at Luna Production…s managed to hire noted cameraman John Alton, then nearing the end of his career. Alton worked on every manner of film, but is best remembered for his work in film noir, salient examples being "Hollow Triumph" (1948), "The Amazing Mr. X" (1948), "The Big Combo" (1955), and a number of important noir entries by director Anthony Mann. Red titled wrappers, noted as SHOOTING FINAL on the front wrapper, dated March 31, 1959. Title page present, dated March 31, 1959, with credits for screenwriter Bodeen, story writer/producer F. O. Rossen was ultimately uncredited in the film, but was involved in this early stage of the script's development. Based on Louis O. Coxe and Robert H. Chapman's 1949 play, which was based in turn on Herm…an Melville's 1924 novella. A seaman's innocence and natural beauty wins him the affection of the entire crew except the abusive master-at-arms, who eventually wrongly accuses the seaman of conspiracy to mutiny. The feature film debut of Terence Stamp, who was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his performance. Yellow titled wrappers, noted as FINAL SCREENPLAY and dated October 15, 1957, with credit for screenwriter Robert Rossen. 122 leaves, with last page of text numbered 122.
