15 x 25 cm, 1 leaf of text and 96 numbered double page with lithographed illustrations, contemporary quarter leather binding. Complete series of 12 issues identified with the Chinese character "yuè" (musique). The lithograph was introduced in Shanghai by Major Bros in 1876, and the first issue of the Dianshizhai Huabao was publi…shed on May 8th, 1884. Items were chosen from the daily news, and illustrated by famous artists like Wu Youru. Sketches done with meticulous care, each signed by the artist (see Ye Xiaoqing, The Dianshizhai Pictorial, Ann Arbor 2003). Faint tidemark to the top of about half of leaves, not affecting etchings (see pictures), binding a bit rubbed.
