Bound in red leather with ornate gilt frames on the front and back covers and the emblem of Glenalmond college in gilt on the front cover. Ornate gilt dentelles on the page edges and the inner turn-ins. 5 gilded raised bands to the spine with tooled… titles in the second compartment and gilt flowers and foliage in the other compartments. Marbled page edges, pastedowns and endpapers. Condition very good, title label missing from spine, a little discolouration to covers, prize label on front pastedown, contents clean, complete and intact. With black and white illustrations throughout. With Illustrations by The Author, John Leech, Frank Dicksee, Linley Sambourne, F. Bernard and Frederick Walker (illustratore).

Addressed to 'Dear Mrs Swan' and signed 'Frank Dicksee'. Her letter gave him great pleasure and he has just had the opportunity of placing he…r 'very kind offer before the Council [of the Royal Academy]'. 'I need hardly tell you they are delighted to accept this valuable gift. & I am asked to tender you our warmest Thanks - since your husband died - Death has taken heavy toll of our members - but there are still some - & I am one - who will greatly appreciate this bust on personal grounds - & for the rest it will always remain a fine work of Art - & the portrait of a distinguished member of the Academy'. He ends with renewed thanks.
