Livre.

Hardcover. Condizione: Fair. Condizione sovraccoperta: No DJ present. George du Maurier, F. Barnard, and Frank Dicksee (illustratore). Format is approximately 5.625 inches by 8.5 inches. xlvi, 725, [3] pages. Illustrations. Some ink and pencil marks and notations present. Cover has some wear and soiling. Front board weak and restrengthened with glue. William Makepeace Thackeray (18 July 1811 - 24 December 1863) was a British novelist, author and illustrator. He is known for his satirical works, particularly his 1848 novel Vanity Fair, a panoramic portrait of British society, and the 1844 novel The Luck of Barry Lyndon, which was adapted for a 1975 film by Stanley Kubrick. Thackeray began "writing for his life", as he put it, turning to journalism in an effort to support his young family. He primarily worked for Fraser's Magazine, a sharp-witted and sharp-tongued conservative publication for which he produced art criticism, short fictional sketches, and two longer fictional works, Catherine and The Luck of Barry Lyndon. Between 1837 and 1840, he also reviewed books for The Times. He was also a regular contributor to The Morning Chronicle and The Foreign Quarterly Review. Later, through his connection to the illustrator John Leech, he began writing for the newly created magazine Punch, in which he published The Snob Papers, later collected as The Book of Snobs. This work popularized the modern meaning of the word "snob". Thackeray was a regular contributor to Punch between 1843 and 1854. Even before Vanity Fair completed its serial run, Thackeray became a celebrity. He remained "at the top of the tree", for the rest of his life, and produced several novels, notably Pendennis, The Newcomes and The History of Henry Esmond. The History of Henry Esmond is a historical novel by William Makepeace Thackeray, originally published in 1852. The book tells the story of the early life of Henry Esmond, a colonel in the service of Queen Anne of England. Thackeray's work of historical fiction tells its tale against the backdrop of late 17th- and early 18th-century England - specifically, major events surrounding the English Restoration - and utilizes characters both real (but dramatized) and imagined. It weaves its central character into a number of events such as the Glorious Revolution, the War of the Spanish Succession, the Hamilton-Mohun Duel and the Hanoverian Succession. Anthony Trollope thought Thackeray the greatest novelist of his time[3] and Esmond his masterpiece. Biographical Edition [stated], reported as Volume VII of multi-volume set.

On perceiving the intention of the Danes to attack him, Erling's heart was glad, because he now felt sure that to some extent he had them in his power. If they had, on his first appearance, taken to their ships, they might have easily escaped, or some of the smaller vessels might have pulled up the river and attacked his ship, which, in that case, would have had to meet them on unequal terms; but, now that they were about to attack him on land, he knew that he could keep them in play as long as he pleased, and that if they should, on the appearance of reinforcements, again make for their ships, he could effectively harass them, and retard their embarkation. He was head of a firm of accountants, Sellars, Dicksee and Co. He was also an esteemed scholar, working as an accounting professor at the University of Birmingham, while also serving as a Lecturer at the London School of Economics. Dicksee began his practice as an accountant in 1886, and then began teaching later, in 1902. Even if students did not take a class with him, they likely encountered him, as he wrote numerous accounting textbooks, such as Advanced Accounting, Hotel Accounts, and Bookkeeping for Accountant Students, among numerous others. Dicksee had a deep impact on accountancy as it is taught, particularly in the United States. Goodwill and its Treatment in Accounts offers one such example. This edition is dedicated to Rex Kallembach, CPA.
